Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any experience to take a class?

No experience needed! All classes are beginner-friendly and designed to be fun, welcoming, and hands-on. Whether you’re new to clay or returning to it, you’ll be guided every step of the way.

What should I wear to class?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting messy. Clay has a way of finding its way onto everything! Long hair should be tied back, and it’s best to remove rings, bracelets, or loose hand jewelry before working.

What should I bring to class?

Just yourself and a willingness to get your hands dirty! We provide all tools and materials. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy and tie back long hair.

Can I come by myself or do I need a group?

Solo bookings are welcome! If you're signing up alone, we’ll group you with other students to meet the class minimum. It’s a great way to meet new people while learning something new.

Can children take classes?

Yes! Handbuilding classes are open to all ages and are a great choice for kids. Wheel throwing classes are open to students ages 12 and up due to the equipment involved. We also host various classes designed for kids throughout the year. Check out our current class offerings for more information.

What happens to the pottery I make in class?

After your session, we’ll fire your selected pieces in the kiln. You’ll be contacted when they’re ready for pickup - typically a few weeks after your class.

Can I request a private lesson or custom project?

Absolutely. Reach out to Layna to talk through private lessons, custom pieces, or special project ideas. We love collaborating!

Where is the studio located?

The studio is located at the The Lab, 67 East Main St., Springville, NY 14141. Free parking is available on the street or behind The Lab in the Municipal Parking lot.

Can I share photos from class on social media?

Yes! We love seeing what you create. Tag @MysticPots so we can share your work too. We may also take photos during class to share the studio experience.

Can I cancel or reschedule my class?

Class fees are non-refundable due to the small class size and limited availability. If you need to reschedule, please contact us at least 48 hours in advance and we’ll do our best to find a new date that works for you.

What happens if I’m running late?

You’re still welcome to join when you arrive, but classes will end at the scheduled time to respect others and studio availability. We recommend arriving 5–10 minutes early to get comfortable and ready to create.

What’s the minimum number of people required for a class?

To ensure a hands-on experience, minimums are required:

  • Wheel Throwing: 4 people (maximum also 4), ages 12+

  • Handbuilding: 4 people minimum, up to 6. No age requirement - great for all ages!

If fewer than the minimum register, we may contact you to reschedule.

What types of pottery classes do you offer?

We offer a mix of wheel-throwing, handbuilding, and figure sculpting classes. Check out our current class listing for more information.

Can I book a private party or group class?

Yes! We love hosting:

  • Birthday parties

  • Bachelorette or bridal parties

  • Wedding favor workshops

  • Any occasion where you want to create something special!

We can accommodate up to 10 guests depending on the project. Reach out and we’ll help you plan!
